Utz UK reveals £3.5m extension to its factory

George Utz Ltd. in Somercotes, makes containers for logistics industries and has lifted the lid on a new £3.5 million extension to its manufacturing plant. Its latest investment is part of a plan to double turnover by 2020. It will also see the company take on 40 more staff over the next five years. As well as spending money on extending the plant, George Utz has invested £3 million in robotic injection moulding technology.

George Utz Ltd. is the UK subsidiary of the Swiss-owned Utz Group, a worldwide provider of multi-use containers to the automotive retail and supply-chain markets. The new factory has been designed to help increase the company's presence in the food processing, waste management and pharmaceutical markets

End of February, the company held a ceremony to mark the opening of the extended factory, in Grove Close. The ribbon-cutting was attended by Axel Ritzberger, chief executive of Utz Group, Alfreton mayor Gail Dolman and some of the firm's key customers and suppliers.

General manager Carsten Diekmann said: "This represents a major investment for us in the UK market where we have identified real opportunity for growth. This will be organic and steady over the next five years. This is a cultural approach based upon our extensive knowledge of the markets we are selling into"
